Popular Covid-19 vaccination van keeps people safe from serious illness

More than 800 Covid-19 vaccination jabs have been administered to people in the borough onboard Croydon Council and the NHS’s joint mobile vaccination van.

The popular vaccination van is now scheduled to be on the road for a further six weeks, stopping at various locations in Croydon encouraging people to keep safe and protect themselves from the virus. You can find the van’s schedule here.

Since the van’s launch in April this year, people have found it to be a quick, convenient and accessible way to get their first and second dose and booster jabs – without the need to make an appointment.

The spring booster jab is also being offered on the van to people age 75 and over, and those with a weakened immune system.

The Covid-19 community champions working alongside the vaccinators on the mobile van have also had conversations with thousands of people close to the van’s locations who have stopped to ask questions about the vaccines and the Covid-19 virus.

Parimala Venkatesh, 25, from Fairfield ward in Croydon, visited the mobile vaccination van in North End with her partner Udaiyakumar Dhandapani, 33. She said: “I am so pleased that we saw the van in Croydon as we were walking past. I decided to come to get my booster to protect myself and my family from Covid. It only took a few minutes of my time.”

Rachel Flowers, Croydon’s director of public health, said: “It is great that people in Croydon are using our vaccination van as a convenient and accessible way to ensure they are protected against Covid-19. The vaccinations will reduce your risk of becoming seriously ill or infecting loved ones. We hope that even more of you will get your Covid jabs onboard while the van remains out and about supporting us to live safely with the virus.”

People can still get their Covid-19 vaccines at their GP and various health settings around the borough. To book an appointment or speak to the local NHS if you have questions about Covid-19 or the vaccinations – with no pressure to get the jab – call 020 3880 0338 or visit https://swlondonccg.nhs.uk/covid/
