Interfaith bike ride and picnic in the park

Hot on the back wheels of Tuesday’s professional town-centre cycle races, Faiths Together in Croydon (FTiC) is staging an interfaith bike ride and picnic, aimed at bringing together the borough’s varied communities.

On Sunday 14 June, FTiC will be holding its annual picnic in Park Hill Recreation Ground. Picking up on the growing popularity of cycling, this year’s event will be preceded by a bike ride through Croydon, visiting faith centres around the borough.

Staged in partnership with Croydon Council, the ride begins at Croydon Arena, Albert Road, Woodside, at 10:30am, taking in a number of sites of worship before finishing with a picnic lunch at Park Hill Recreational Ground at about 2:30pm.

• 10.30am – Start at Croydon Arena SE25 4QL with a route safety briefing.
• 11am – Croydon Faith Education Resources CR9 7AL with presentations on the Jewish and Hindu faiths.
• Noon – South Norwood Islamic Centre SE25 5JJ.
• 12.55pm – Croydon Gurdwara CR0 2BU.
• 1.45pm – St Mary Magdalene Church CR0 6QD.
• 2.30pm – Park Hill Recreation Ground, Fairfield Road – Big Picnic.

Councillor Mark Watson, cabinet member for communities, safety and justice

“The annual picnic has gained the reputation of being a fun event for all the family, giving Croydon’s communities a chance to meet, eat and have fun.

“With this year’s added attraction of a not-too-taxing bike ride, it should prove even more popular.

“This will be a fun day out for everybody, young and old, and a great way to celebrate the diversity of faith in Croydon.”

Anybody keen to take part can take along their own bicycle. Alternatively, bikes will be available for hire at Croydon Arena.

Pre-registration is essential and can be carried out at

Those not so keen on cycling can take part by turning up at any of the venues at the scheduled times, and, of course, the Big Picnic at 2.30 pm.
