Have your say on making Croydon a great place to live

Residents are invited to give their views on how to make Croydon a great place to live at a series of consultation events taking place across the borough.

The Croydon Local Plan is a 20-year growth and development vision that sets out how Croydon will meet housing need in each of the borough’s 16 places.

It provides the planning policy for increasing the supply of homes, including affordable housing, and regenerating district centres.

The new draft plan, approved by the council’s cabinet in September for consultation, aims to make sure neighbourhoods flourish and support existing and future communities.

It is estimated approximately 30,000 homes will be needed to meet Croydon’s growth needs from 2016-2036, and the plan lays the groundwork for achieving this.

The draft local plan allocates land for development and sets out the detailed policies to guide this.

Consultation begins today (Friday, 6 November) and runs until Friday, 18 December.

“The Local Plan is about your neighbourhood and improving the area you live in.

“It sees the council delivering for Croydon’s children by ensuring the sustainable growth of our suburbs while retaining their distinct character, that our communities flourish and our district centres thrive.

“This is an extensive consultation around all 16 places in Croydon, which are covered by the Local Plan. We’d welcome the views of our residents which will be really important in shaping the appearance and character of where they live.”

Councillor Alison Butler, deputy leader and cabinet member for homes, regeneration and planning

Each of the drop-in events will focus on different places in the borough. A full list and copies of the plan can be found online at www.croydon.gov.uk/localplanone and www.croydon.gov.uk/localplantwo
