The follow-up to last year’s successful Ambition Festival will be held in September in a joint venture between Boxpark Croydon and the council.
Boxpark Croydon is set to produce the festival following the launch of its major new venture at Ruskin Square, East Croydon, this summer.
At the heart of the development is a major 20,000 sq.ft state-of-the-art event space, which will be programmed with innovative and vibrant events and exhibitions throughout the year. The festival will be the centrepiece of that programme.
The programme in the Boxpark Croydon event space will sit alongside two more town-centre sites expected to be included in the two-day festival in September.
Boxpark and the council will be encouraging local artists, groups and town-centre venues to get involved. Details of all venues, dates and how people can join in will be announced over the coming months.
As with last year’s festival, there will be a wide range of acts and events catering for everyone, including a free programme for families.
Councillor Timothy Godfrey, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: “By working with Boxpark, we can build on the fantastic success of the 2015 Ambition Festival.
“The council is committed to creating a thriving and lively cultural offer and continues to raise the profile of the borough by hosting exciting large-scale cultural events that engage communities and support regeneration.
“Tapping into Boxpark’s reputation and reach, we can ensure that local people and local acts get to benefit, while opening up the borough to showcase Croydon at its best.”
Roger Wade, CEO of Boxpark, said: “We’re very excited about delivering a brand new event space for south London here in Croydon. Croydon is one of the best-connected locations in London and, with the ambitious development plans for the future and a rich cultural history, has enormous potential to be the one of the most vibrant live music and event hotspots in London.
“We know there are local people and groups with some great ideas for the festival and we’re keen to work with them. This is what our new Boxpark scheme is all about – fusing the best of the UK’s new talent with local innovation and attitude to bring creativity to the streets of Croydon.”
